SAILing INSTRUCTOR

We are seeking enthusiastic, hard working, experienced Sailing Instructors for the 2023 Summer season.  New instructors will work with our team of instructors and program directors to execute our Learn To Sail, Community Sailing, and Adaptive programs.  The SSC runs its summer program with set up beginning in Mid/Late May and programming running June through Early/Mid-August and tear down is the week after our final Youth Learn To Sail program in August.  We have approximately 100 Junior Sailors and 100 Community Sailors ages 7 to 17 go through our programs every summer.  Our Sailing Fleet includes Opti sailboats, RS Zests, Club 420, and Lasers for our youth sailing programs.  Additionally, we have keelboats and trimarans that are mainly used for our private instruction, community and adaptive programs.  Comfort in all aspects of our program is required to be a successful instructor.

*Boating Safety (NASBLA or ODNR BEC)  REQUIRED

Race team coach

We run half day afternoon or evening (determined at the beginning of the season) race team practices.  Our Race Team coaches have the opportunity to join our Adaptive/Youth Learn to Sail program during sessions when Race Team is not practicing.  The Junior Race Team travels to regattas most Saturdays, and an occasional weekday or Sunday depending on ILYA scheduling, resulting in day travel on weekends being required for the Junior Race Team Coach position.

*US Sailing Small Boat Level 2 or 3 Certification preferred

*Safe Sport Certification REQUIRED

*Boating Safety (NASBLA or ODNR BEC)  REQUIRED

Adult LEARN TO SAIL INSTRUCTORS

We have an Adult Learn To Sail program and Community ProgramsIf you hold this certification, you would have the opportunity to instruct these classes as well.  

*US Sailing Keelboat Certification REQUIRED

*Captain's credentials REQUIRED

Program Assistant

Program Assistants are experienced sailors without formal US Sailing certifications that are available to assist in all shoreside or on water aspects of the program day.  Flexibility is key for this position as your responsibilities can change daily from one program to the other based on need.  Our Youth Learn to Sail program, Adaptive Sailing and Community Sailing are the primary focus for this position.  Assignments are given daily based on program need and specific Program Assistant skill set.

Jr Program/sailing Assistant 

Jr Program/Sailing Assistants are experienced sailors with or without formal US Sailing certifications that are available to assist in all land based portions of the program day.  Flexibility is key for this position as your responsibilities can change daily from one program to the other based on daily need.  Our Youth Learn to Sail program, Adaptive Sailing and Community Sailing programs are the primary focus for this position.  Assignments are given daily based on program need and specific Jr Program/Sailing Assistant skill set.

* US Sailing Level 1 Certification (REQUIRED for Sailing Assistant only)

YEAR ROUND POTENTIAL
